REVIEWS :

I found this unwittingly on vinyl at a store that I never would have guessed would carry it. Very well put together drum n bass from Harris and Neil Harvey of PCM. I fluxuate as to whether I am more fond of this or QUOIT, but they are definately in the same ballpark. Deep, overmodulated bass notes squeeze in between hard, skipping drum beats. This wouldn't sound out of place in a dark drum n bass room, but I still get the impression that djs, at least the ones in the US, have no idea about this stuff. I would like for it to be a little faster, but I have a pitch slider, so I can fix that. Nice artwork as well, and the tracks are listed on the labels, unlike the QUOIT, so for the time being, it wins out just for that reason.

A slogan for today: "Never underestimate Mick". I did it. I confess and beg for mercy. I think that I have quite big collection of Harris' beat-oriented works and there was this moment when I asked myself a question. What else he can do to those rhythms to make my blood run faster? Don't get me wrong, I love it all, but after all those albums is there something more to unveil? There is. This time Neil Harvey (of PCM fame) opens a new line in the ongoing list of Harris' collaborations. The clash between rather slow, minimal breakbeat and mechanical structures of progressive drum'n'bass makes this record probably the fastest Harris album to date. It reminds me of a train journey. I don't know if you've had this feeling before, but I sometimes (when in a running train) listen to the sounds of the wheels hitting the little gaps between the tracks (especially on junctions) - it forms strange rhythms sometimes. Railway rhythm - it comes to my mind when listening most of the records signed by Mick, but this time it's a total blast. It's like a junction rhythms mixed up and treated combined with those guts moving basses. A machine gathering momentum and still accelerating. The railwayman's nightmare. Harris/Harvey - I hope these two will meet in the studio some time in the future to stir in the music pot again. In the meantime you will have to excuse me I have a train to catch...
